Our Dog Zip

Zip is gone. She left us an hour ago. I am so grateful for having her in my life. She brought out the best in all of us.

Her personality was pleasing. She liked us and she wasn’t afraid to show it. With wagging tail and deep, affectionate barks she greeted us and made us feel loved. She was genuinely happy to be with us and couldn’t wait for our arrival in her world. She love the boys so. She wanted to be with them and reveled in their attention.

With me she patiently submitted to waiting for her meals, her walks, her baths. She knew when she messed up and her eyes were sorry. But it is I who am sorry, sorry and so sad for losing her now.

In a way, a kind of release, a permission to part. I told her that we loved her and I mentioned us all by name. William loves you. Nicholas loves you, Alex loves you, dad loves you and I love you. We release you to your new life and we will see you again someday.

Her life and mine – a parting and an ending. But not goodbye.

We prayed three Hail Mary’s and let her leave us. She was a good dog and she was loved.
